What We Do
Run Your Outback is a volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to inspiring and empowering First Nations youth across outback Australia through the joy of running.
We travel to remote communities to share the physical, mental, and social benefits of running, creating opportunities for young people to connect with their land and each other in a positive, supportive and fun environment.
Our programs focus on education, inclusivity, fun, and community spirit. We organize and host running events ranging from one to five kilometers, tailored to the abilities and needs of each community.
These events are more than run races—they are celebrations of land, culture, health, and resilience—fostering confidence, teamwork, empowerment, and a lifelong love of movement.
By volunteering our time and resources, Run Your Outback aims to build stronger connections within communities to land, encourage healthier lifestyles, and open pathways for youth to experience achievement and pride through the simple act of running.
It is Remote
We are here to understand the challenges these remote communities face. By listening and connecting with the community, we will share and progress the solutions that are already taking shape.
Remote Australian communities face unprecedented challenges: most stem from within the name - the remoteness. Not only that of being situated far from main centres of population, but also the stark differences in ways of being, resulting in difficulties cultivating connection. These challenges add to the remoteness of any easy or fast solution. While not a solution, Run Your Outback is another tool in the shed that can be used to work towards making something better.
Run Your Outback, by visiting remote communities, will highlight organisations and individuals encountered along the journey, elevating their voices and amplifying community action. Real changes happen when we join forces to connect local knowledge with country awareness.
Through Run Your Outback, we’re here to listen, learn, and run together in Australia’s vast outback, together fostering connections, fun and betterment.
Join us on this journey, follow our progress, learn about the communities we meet, and discover how together we can make a difference in each outback. Together, let’s listen, collaborate, connect, run, reconnect, become empowered, and ultimately celebrate our land and the life we live with it.
The outback is calling us to do more than just run it.
