What We Do

Kids running in their Outback in Australia.

Run Your Outback is a purpose-driven initiative dedicated to inspiring and empowering First Nations youth and all Australians across outback Australia through the joy of running.

Our programs expose the physical, mental, and social benefits of running, creating opportunities for all peoples to connect with their land and each other in a positive, supportive and fun environment.

Our Outreach Programs focus on education, inclusivity, fun, and community spirit for Indigenous Youth. We do not coach, we facilitate and empower them to create and lead. More information can be found below.

Our annual Trail Festival offers an immersive experience on our 500+ acre outback property, featuring diverse terrain from rolling hills to rocky escarpments. Held during the Northern Territory Dry Season, this event brings together running, camping, and community for a weekend dedicated to health and vitality for all Australians. More information can be found on our Trail Festival page.

These events are more than run races—they are celebrations of land, culture, health, and resilience—fostering confidence, teamwork, empowerment, and a lifelong love of movement.

Through Run Your Outback, we’re here to listen, learn, and run together in Australia’s vast outback, together fostering connections, fun and betterment.

Join us on this journey, follow our progress, learn about the communities we meet, and discover how together we can make a difference in each outback. Together, let’s listen, collaborate, connect, run, reconnect, become empowered, and ultimately celebrate our land and the life we live with it.

The outback is calling us to do more than just run it.

Remote Outreach Programs

Remote Australian communities face unprecedented challenges: most stem from within the name - the remoteness. Not only that of being situated far from main centres of population, but also the stark differences in ways of being, resulting in difficulties cultivating connection. These challenges add to the remoteness of any easy or fast solution. While not a solution, Run Your Outback is another tool in the shed that can be used to work towards making something better.

Run Your Outback Remote Outreach is a tailored program that aims to reconnect Indigenous youth to culture and country through running. The experience begins with engaging, community-created and community-led activities and course design, culminating in a "fun run" where youth run on country, cross a finish line, receive an official Run Your Outback medal, and are inspired to stay active.

How the Program Works

  • Pre-Program Engagement: We begin with activities designed to help youth settle in, feel comfortable, and take ownership of the experience.

  • Course Design & Warm-Ups: We guide participants in designing their own community running course and lead-up activities, encouraging youth leadership and empowerment.

  • The "Fun Run” Finale: Each event concludes with a professionally timed fun run. Youth are given numbered bibs with timing chips and finish through official flags.

  • Medals & Motivation: Every participant receives a medal as a tangible token of their achievement, along with their name and finish time on a big screen, inspiring long-term health and activity.

Tailored for Community

To maximize impact, no two programs are exactly alike. Every event is uniquely tailored to reflect the culture and geography of the specific community we visit.

We are here to understand the challenges that remote communities face. By listening and connecting with each community, we will share and progress the solutions that are already taking shape.
