Run Your Outback is a social enterprise dedicated to empowering Aboriginal youth throughout the top end of Australia by fostering physical, cultural, and community enrichment through running and active living programs. By connecting First Nations youth with the power of sport, resilience, and traditional land, we aim to instil empowerment, create healthier futures, stronger communities, and greater opportunities for self-determination.

Our mobile outreach program, based out of a purpose built Overlander truck, enables us to reach even the most remote First Nations communities. Our programs include running events, workshops, mentoring, and cultural exchanges designed to inspire young people to “run their own outback” — building pride, connection, wellbeing, and leadership.

Meet Bron & John

With our extensive experience working in the Outback, alongside our expertise in running and coaching, combined with a strong commitment to education, inspiration, and empowerment, we strive to create a world where every step taken is not only meaningful but also fosters a deeper and more respectful connection to the land. Bron and John live and play in the vast, rugged, and beautiful Outback of the Northern Territory. Originally from Melbourne and Sydney respectively, both were drawn to the more relaxed lifestyle and the unique natural environment. Having made the move many years ago, they have since developed a profound appreciation for, and connection to the region and proudly call it their home.

Bron’s experience includes employment at a Regional Northern Territory council, coordinating and managing a wide range of activities specifically designed for First Nation youths in remote communities to foster stronger connections through sport and recreation. She has dedicated her entire working career to athletics, recreation and community events, gaining invaluable experience that has greatly benefited her when shifting focus towards supporting our First Nation youths. In addition to her council work, Bron previously managed the Katherine YMCA, where she coordinated gym and aquatic programs both specifically designed for First Nation youths, and programs integrating all youths, ensuring accessible and inclusive programs for the local and surrounding communities.

John’s previous work for the Australian Government for over 23 years saw him stationed at many metropolitan, regional and remote locations within Australia and abroad. This allowed him to develop a deeper understanding of the local Peoples, and which areas were in need of improvement or repair. John’s background is firmly rooted in coaching and events, where he had the opportunity to work closely with athletes performing at the highest levels of competition. Over time, John shifted his focus towards youth development, dedicating himself to coaching spirited and enthusiastic children aged 5 to 15, nurturing their growth and passion for sport in meaningful ways.
